HOUSTON – The weather in the Houston area for Labor Day weekend will be hot and dry, and there isn’t a glimmer of hope for rain until next week, KHOU 11 News Meteorologist Mario Gomez said.

“It doesn’t look too good. We’re still looking at extreme drought conditions, with moderate conditions in the upper Gulf Coast area, but just to the south and to the west, we still have exceptional dry conditions still across southeast Texas,” Gomez said.

Friday morning kicked off with a low of 80 degrees and temperatures are expected to top off near 100 degrees this afternoon. The heat index will make it feel even hotter than that this weekend, possibly as high as 103 degrees.

No rain relief is expected to head our way until next week, and even then, there is only a 120-to 20-percent chance we will see showers from Monday through Thursday.
