HOUSTON—Two undercover officers shot and killed man who stabbed an officer in the arm and hand in front of a dope house in northwest Houston Thursday, according to Houston police.
An HPD Tactical Unit was backed into the driveway of a home in the 2000 block of De Walt to conduct surveillance around 9:20 p.m. when two men approached their vehicle.
One of the men – 51-year-old Kevin Bernard Hunter—told the officers they needed to get out of there and began to shout profanities, according to police. When the officer in the driver’s seat rolled down the window, Hunter stabbed him. Both officers then discharged their weapons, striking Hunter an unknown number of times. He died at the scene.
The injured officer was transported to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital and was expected to be OK.
The injured officer is a 20-year veteran with HPD. His partner has been on the force for three years.
As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, as well as the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
