HOUSTON --- A P.E. teacher and a school nurse are credited with saving a third grade boy who collapsed Monday morning at a Cypress-area elementary school.
The boy collapsed at 10:10 a.m. while running during a P.E. class at LaFaye Johnson Lee Elementary on West Little York, according to a spokesperson for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. The teacher and school nurse performed CPR and also used an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) on the child. The boy was revived, breathing and his heart beating again, when he was rushed to Texas Children’s Hospital.
The Cy-Fair spokesperson said an additional update on the boy was not available as of 6 p.m. Doctors were attending to him and trying to determine why he collapsed.
AED devices were required to be installed in all Texas public schools in 2007.
