PEARLAND, Texas – Two employees leaving their jobs at a Sam’s Club in Pearland were assaulted and robbed late Wednesday, police said.
It happened around 9:45 p.m. at the Sam’s Club store on Highway 288 at Discovery Bay.
Demerris Edwards, 22, was walking a co-worker to her car when they were ambushed.
"And when we got to the car, a guy jumped out of a Jeep Grand Cherokee and ran up to us with a gun," Edwards said.
The masked suspect threw Edwards against the car.
"He just hit me in the backside of the head with the back of the gun," said Edwards. "Just one hit, and that was pretty much it. I fell to the ground, and he grabbed the money in my pocket and left."
"It could have been very serious," said Lt. Oneismo of the Pearland Police Department. "The subject was armed, and he was obviously prepared to use violence and demonstrated that by hitting the guy on the head."
The robbers got away with just $10. That’s what Edwards earned as a cart pusher at Sam’s.
"It’s a shame," said Edwards. "I just thank God I’m fine. I had no fear. I was just trying to make sure the young lady was safe."
It all makes Edwards wonder what the world is coming too.
"It says people need to pray more," said Edwards. "Satan is really running loose."
The suspects fled in the older model, green SUV.
Investigators said there may have been a third suspect driving the vehicle.
