HOUSTON — Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo occupied the streets of downtown Houston with the Downtown Rodeo Parade Saturday morning.
The downtown area turned into a down-home celebration of Western heritage.
Led by grand marshal U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ty M. Carter, a Medal of Honor recipient, the Downtown Rodeo Parade began at 10 a.m.
Hundreds of thousands of spectators lined the streets and sidewalks as decorative floats, wagons, stage coaches, marching bands and trail rides made their way through the route starting at Bagby and Walker streets and ending at Lamar and Bagby.
Parade floats and trail rides were judged along the route in different categories. The 2014 Downtown Rodeo Parade winners are:

- Originality – University of Houston
- Most Beautiful – Armed Forces Appreciation Committee
- Chairman’s Award – BP America
- President’s Award – International Committee
