HOUSTON—A 19-year-old girl managed to fight off a would-be rapist as she was walking home from work in Kingwood, police said.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. on Monday in one of the Greenbelt Trail tunnels, near the 2900 block of Northpark Drive.

The girl told Houston police that the man grabbed her, threw her up against a wall and demanded that she take off her pants.

But she managed to bite her attacker and run for help.

The news of the attack has neighbors surprised and concerned.

"Wow, you wouldn’t think at 2:30 in the afternoon you would even need to think about trouble like that," said one Kingwood resident.

Police don’t have a good description of the attacker, but they were encouraging women to use the buddy system if they plan on taking the trails.
