WASHINGTON – Three police officers from the Houston area were among those honored Sunday by President Barack Obama for their everyday acts of courage.

Among the honorees were three officers the Houston Police Department -- Gary Blankinship, his daughter Nicole Blankinship-Reeves and Michael Lareau.

All three were off-duty when an armed man began acting irrationally in a Pasadena seafood restaurant. Lareau shot the man when he refused to cooperate. No one else was hurt.
