MARRERO, La. -- A bicyclist was killed after being hit by a car while trying to cross US 90 Tuesday evening, according to State Police.
Around 9 p.m., the bicyclist, Cleveland Hills, 49, was struck in the one of the eastbound lanes of US 90B.
According to State Police, the driver was traveling in the left lane of US 90B and swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid Hill, losing control of the car and hitting Hill in the center lane, before running off the road to the right and hitting a stop sign.
Hill was taken to West Jefferson Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the car submitted to a breath test and no detectable alcohol was found in his system, said State Police. Impairment is suspected for Hill with an autopsy pending. Troopers suspect speed may be a factor on the part of the driver.
The crash remains under investigation.
