HOUSTON—One man was taken into custody early Monday after trying to flee police following a traffic stop in northeast Houston, according to Houston police.

An HPD unit pulled over a pickup truck carrying three male occupants on Tidwell at Jensen around midnight.

After the driver stopped at a convenience store, he bailed out and fled north over a fence.

Police called for backup and a K-9 unit was brought in to assist. The suspect was apprehended about five minutes later.  While in handcuffs, he laughed and smiled with police.

The other two men stayed behind and said they did not know why their friend tried to flee.

The suspect is now facing felony evading charges.
