HOUSTON –Several law enforcement departments participated in a special SWAT class Wednesday at the old Valley Oaks Elementary School.
It was a rare opportunity for officers to practice in a school building.
“It’s very important—they never get a chance to do it. When it does happen, it’s a tragedy and we hate to see something like that happen,” said Tim Healey who lives nearby. “It’s a great for them to practice in a large building, get a feel for the school, the hallways, the doors.”
The Spring Branch Independent School District and police warned residents about the explosions in advance.
Valley Oaks is scheduled to be demolished later in June to make way for a new school.
