HOUSTON – Police used spike strips to bring an hour-long police chase to an end on South Beltway 8 late Thursday night.
The chase started around 11:45 p.m. when an officer spotted a suspicious driver on Shaver Street near the Gulf Freeway, according to the Houston Police Department.
When the officer tried to stop the pickup truck, the driver refused to pull over and sped onto Interstate 45, headed toward Beltway 8.
Police said the man kept circling the Beltway before getting back on Interstate 45. He then turned around and once again returned to the Beltway.
He was finally taken into custody when an officer’s spike strip blew a tire on the truck just before Highway 3.
Two police cruisers also suffered blown tires, and another had its transmission fail.
Police said they weren’t sure why the driver refused to pull over.
