HOUSTON—A family of seven, including an elderly woman in a wheelchair, managed to escape a huge fire that consumed their home along with two other houses under construction.
Houston firefighters arrived at the scene on E. 27th near Cornell around 1 a.m. Sunday to find the two partially constructed houses fully engulfed in flames and another occupied, one-story home on fire.
Firefighters say the flames were so high and so hot, they couldn’t park their vehicles on the street in front of the home to access the nearest fire hydrant.
Smoke detectors alerted the residents of the house and they were able to get out safely.
No injuries were reported.
Authorities are investigating the possibility of arson.
