HOUSTON – Rush-hour traffic was snarled on the East Loop Tuesday afternoon after a crash involving a box truck and a pickup towing a tractor.
It happened around 5 p.m. in the southbound lanes, near Market Street.
The cause of the crash was not immediately clear, but officers at the scene said the box truck driver and a passenger had to be extracted from the truck’s cab.
They were taken to the hospital via ground ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident left the box truck on its side, with visible damage to the cab and cargo areas. The truck was loaded with industrial batteries. Some acid did spill, but a hazmat team rushed to the scene and was able to contain the spill.
The pickup and its trailer were jackknifed nearby.
Only one lane of traffic was getting by.
