Hurricane hunters flying into a tropical disturbance this afternoon should confirm a new depression in the Gulf of Mexico. Based on satellite loops and oil platforms in the bay of Campeche a tropical depression could form in the southwestern Gulf this afternoon.

The implications for South Texas could be much needed rain and some flooding if the depression or even a tropical storm stalls out on the western fringes of a cool front Sunday - Wednesday. More on this scenario on the video blog. . . .
