HOUSTON - Athletes from the Texas Tech and University of Minnesota football teams competed in the annual Rodeo Bowl Wednesday at the George Ranch Historical Park as part of the festivities leading up to the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas.
The Rodeo Bowl features a variety of rodeo-themed events that pit the players against one another in a fun, lighthearted competition.
Among the festivities were a touchdown dance contest between the offensive lines from both schools, Minnesota players attempting to separate three calves from their herd, players from both teams roping the school mascots, Minnesota players “branding” a calf (with chalk, not a hot brand), a stick horse race and Texas Tech players attempting to pull a bandana off a calf’s tail.
Minnesota took home the trophy as this year’s Rodeo Bowl Champion. Both teams will compete in the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas at 8 p.m. Friday at Reliant Stadium.
