FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas – A tornado touched down inside a Fort Bend County subdivision on Monday, damaging several homes in the process.
Officials said the tornado touched down briefly in the Mission Bend subdivision near the intersection of Gaines and Bissonnet around 9:30 a.m.
The tornado was ranked on the lower-end of the intensity scale, most like an EF1, according to officials.
But residents in one home said it was plenty strong, taking out their whole garage and destroying much of their roof.
“You can hear it, it just starts getting louder, the wind hitting the house,” said resident Baset Jalili. “The front door was actually locked but it just flew open. That’s when I grabbed my mom and my sister and took them to the master bedroom. We just took cover in the closet until it calmed down a little bit.”
Other homes in the neighborhood suffered similar damage and fence lines were torn down in many yards.
No injuries were reported.
