HOUSTON – Eight-year old Ross Keeler lives in New Mexico and like most boys his age football is his passion.

He also loves the Rice Owls, a connection that might seem odd at first glance.

Not at all, when you know why.

When he was 3, Ross was diagnosed with a form of brain cancer.

Doctors in Albuquerque successfully removed a brain tumor, but for his chemotherapy treatments, Ross had to come to Texas Childrens here in Houston trips which for his family offered little hope of enjoyment or so they thought.

Ross wanted to watch Rice participate in spring practice and so his mom called the school. Head coach David Bailiff answered and what happened next was truly amazing.

KHOU 11 Sports reporter Daniel Gotera has Ross’ story.
