HOUSTON – One man was sent to the hospital with severe burns after a fire broke out at the Midtown Terrace Suites Friday night.

The Houston Fire Department responded to a fire in an apartment at the old motel in the 4600 block of Main Street just before 9 p.m. The motel had been converted into housing for veterans.

Jay Evans, HFD’s public information officer, said that injured man had been rescued by a neighbor who had smelled the smoke coming from the unit.

The fire was contained to the single unit, but some of the neighboring units did have some smoke damage, Evans said. Investigators are looking into what may have caused the fire.
