HOUSTON – Firefighters had to cut a hole in the side of an elderly woman’s home to try and rescue her from a fire at her south Houston home. She later died at the hospital, firefighters said. The fire was reported around 11:30 p.m. Monday on Sherwood Drive at Porter Avenue, according to the Houston Fire Department.
