HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A Harris County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a suspect late Friday afternoon.

Authorities said deputies pulled over a suspect with multiple felonies on Highway 6 near West Road around 4:15 p.m.

According to deputies, the suspect started driving, hit one deputy and tried to speed away.

Authorities said deputies standing in front of the suspect’s car, fearing for their lives, fired several shots at the vehicle.

The suspect, who was struck multiple times, sped through the intersection and crashed into a curb.

He was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

"I never thought I’d see an officer do something like that, but I guess you got to do what you got to do to survive," said witness Moe Alyson. "It was crazy. I’ve never seen something like that on this side of town."

Traffic was backed up on Highway 6 in both directions while the scene was being cleared, but all lanes were reopened by about 8:30 p.m.

Two other officer suffered minor injuries while responding to the scene. One deputy suffered a broken ankle when someone drove over his foot while he tried to direct traffic. The other deputy was driving to the scene when he lost control and crashed into a tree, suffering broken ribs. Both were expected to be fine.

Sources told KHOU 11 News that the suspect’s wife later showed up to the scene, where she learned her husband had died.

Deputies said the suspect knew he was being watched and told his wife he thought he’d soon be dead.
