HOUSTON—Traffic remains backed up in the westbound lanes of the N. Sam Houston Toll way at Antoine after two people were killed in a fiery crash, according to authorities.

Authorities said a driver was paying at a toll booth just after 2 a.m. when an 18-wheeler crashed into the back of it.

The tractor trailer ran over the car, and the two vehicles burst into flames.

Authorities said both drivers were killed, but they are not sure if either vehicle had passengers.

Investigators do not know how fast the big rig driver was going, or if the driver fell asleep.

Drivers will need to exit Ella and take the feeder road past Highway 249 to avoid the accident.

The Harris County Toll Authority is waiving tolls for drivers exiting and entering the toll way in this area.

Anyone going to or from Bush Intercontinental Airport will have to avoid the beltway altogether. Traffic can be seen backed up all the way to JFK Blvd.
