HOUSTON – A purse thief has burglarized cars at the Primrose School day care on Kirby, Pearland police said.
At Kids R Kids on Pearland Parkway, he hit two cars at once and busted the window out of one of them to get to a purse left on the seat, police said.
Pearland police said the man drives a late model four door silver Chevy Malibu. He has also been spotted in a maroon Jeep.
The man waits and watches women who go into day care facilities without their purses; then he opens their doors and takes their bags. Police said, in most cases, the women left their doors unlocked.
“It’s easy. It’s quick and easy,” said Lt. Patrick Savage with the Pearland Police Department.
Savage said after the man stole the purses he went immediately to stores to use the victims’ credit cards before they could be cancelled.
“So, it’s not only the initial theft, but it’s the credit card abuse and the possible identity theft after,” said Savage.
At Stepping Stones Learning Center on Broadway a similar burglar hit their parking lot a few years ago.
“The burglars would basically break out the windows right in front of our facility so we got the cameras installed and we have not seen any problems since then,” said manager Heather Russell.
The thefts started on Dec. 27 and the last one was Jan. 30. They have occurred at various times of day, in various parts of town.
