HOUSTON – A suspected serial rapist was behind bars Tuesday, bringing relief to three victims and other residents of the southwest Houston apartment complex where the crimes occurred.
Sedric Johnson, 20, is charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault and four counts of aggravated robbery in connection with the attacks, which all happened at The Mills apartments at Bissonnet and the Sam Houston Parkway.
One woman, who KHOU 11 News did not identify because she is the victim of a sex crime, said she was praying that her attacker would be brought to justice.
"They said he was robbing people’s purses, kicking in doors. He got what was coming to him. Hopefully, he’ll be in jail for a long time," she said. "I’m just glad he is off the streets, [and it’s] not going to happen to anybody else."
Investigators said they have DNA evidence linking Johnson to the attacks, and that all three victims positively identified him when they saw his mug shot.
Police said the assaults occurred on May 20, May 27 and June 3.
Johnson dragged women into vacant units at gunpoint, according to police. They said he forced each victim to perform oral sex. In two cases, police said Johnson had a lookout who has not been charged or caught.
"Each one of those women will never forget (the attack)," said Alison Baimbridge, who is prosecuting Johnson. "They will live (the attack) in their dreams and nightmares forever."
Johnson, who has a lengthy criminal history that includes arrests for theft and burglary, was set to appear before a judge again Wednesday.
His girlfriend said he’s innocent of the rapes.
"I know he didn’t do this," said the woman who didn’t want to give her name. "There is no play time. There’s no nothing. He works from six o’clock in the morning all the way to seven o’clock at night."
A suspect who acted as a lookout during the assaults was still on the run Tuesday.
Anyone with information on the lookout suspect’s identity or whereabouts should call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
