PASADENA—Parents remained on guard Thursday as police continued to search for a man who attempted to sexually assault a 10-year-old girl near a Pasadena apartment complex.

The incident occurred around 5:30 Tuesday evening in the 700 block of Preston Street.

Authorities said the victim had crawled through a hole in the fence surrounding the apartments and was playing in an open field when the attack took place.

The man shoved the girl to the ground and attempted to rip off her clothing. Before he could assault her, the girl managed to break free and run away.

The victim’s mother expressed outrage over what happened.

"How dare him try to do this to anybody’s child, let alone my child," she said.

The attacker was wearing a black nylon stocking over his head.

Police described him as approximately 5-feet-7-inches tall and between 150 to 175 pounds. They said he has a medium build with light brown skin and spoke English with a Spanish accent.

"I just want him to be caught," the victim’s mother said.

In the meantime, parents in the area vowed to keep a close eye on their kids.

"When they’re out here, they’re under my 24-7 surveillance," said Lanie Winston.

"He doesn’t go out of my site," said Robin Cousins. "My blinds are always open and I’m always watching what the kids are doing."
