ROSENBERG, Texas - A Rosenberg mother of four is facing four counts of endangering a child after allegedly leaving her young kids home alone. Police said 25-year-old Sarah Gonzales left her children by themselves several times Monday.
Rosenberg Police got a call around 3:20 p.m. on Monday from a concerned neighbor. That neighbor reported seeing the young kids playing outside unattended.
"She told us she had left to go to Jack in the Box to get some food for a short period of time. It was obviously a much longer distance than that,” said Rosenberg Assistant Police Chief Dallis Warren.
Surveillance cameras at the Woodland Inn and Suites reportedly captured her coming and going. According to police, the time she was missing ranged from 25 minutes to over an hour.
CPS confirms the kids are 6 months old, 1 year old, 4 years old and 9 years old.
“It’s pretty shocking to find a 6-month-old and 9-year-old left alone without any supervision,” Warren said. “Either take those children with you when you’re going to the store or leave them with a responsible adult.”
Neighbors claim this isn’t the first time Gonzales has abandoned her children since moving to the motel about two weeks ago.
“I believe this needed to be done,” said a neighbor who only wanted to be identified as Ren. “Someone needed to show up and take care of it.”
It’s unclear if there is a history of CPS involvement with this family. CPS is still waiting to speak with Gonzales about the allegations. The four children are staying with relatives.
Gonzales is now being held at the Fort Bend County Jail.
