HOUSTON -- A mentally handicapped woman missing for three days was reunited with her anxious family Wednesday evening in northeast Harris County.

Sandra Valdez, 49, disappeared Sunday afternoon from a nearby convenience store on East Mount Houston Road.

Surveillance cameras showed her holding hands with another regular customer, a woman locals know as “Rosa.”

Rosa apparently took Valdez home to hang out together. A relative of Rosa’s reportedly saw media reports about the missing woman and contacted authorities.

Harris County Sheriff’s deputies picked up Valdez and brought her home.

Valdez was in good spirits and said she was not hurt. Her family said she lived a normal life until she was 29 and suffered a brain aneurism.

Her parents now care for her.

She walks a lot and is well known in her Aldine neighborhood. Dozens of family and friends had searched for her along the streets and bayous.
