HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- A husband is killed and a wife tied up in what can only be described as a murder mystery. It happened in the 5900 block of Kelsey Meadows Court in the Cy-Fair area.

"Anything is a surprise in your neighborhood," said neighbor Sloan Essman. "You wonder if it's domestics, random, planned."

Essman was working in his garage when he heard family members, who showed up across the street, screaming for help.

"Next thing I know, people started running out saying call an ambulance, call the police," he recalled.

When detectives from the Harris County Sheriff's Office showed up, they found Sandra Melgar alive and tied up in a closet. Her husband, Jaime Melgar, was tied up and dead in another closet.

Neighbors told KHOU 11 News the husband was stabbed. Detectives will not confirm how he was killed or what either of the victims were tied up with.

"Mrs. Melgar said she and her husband were in the bathroom together at approximately 1 a.m. this morning," said Sergeant Robert Spurgeon. "At some time, she blacked out and the next thing she remembered was waking up in the closet tied up."

Detectives will not discuss what may be missing from the house or what it looked like inside but it took fifteen hours for the scene to be discovered.

"One of the other neighbors noticed their garage door was open at about 7 a.m. this morning," said Essman.

An open garage door was the only clue something was wrong. Now, 52-year old Jaime Melgar is dead on what was supposed to be the couple's 32nd wedding anniversary.

Sandra Melgar was dressed in a robe and appeared physically okay as she was being questioned by police on the scene. She was taken to the sheriff's office for further questioning.
