MIAMI, Fla. -- Florida wildlife officials have put out a bounty for Burmese pythons-- offering up cash in exchange for dead snakes
As part of the 2013 Python Challenge, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is teaching people how to catch and kill pythons.
State officials say pythons are eating too many of the native animals, so they're hoping the month-long harvest helps thin out the snake's numbers.
The challenge ends on February 10. Competitors can win up to $1,500 in prizes.
