HOUSTON—Hostess shelves are quickly becoming empty across southeast Texas as news of the company’s closure spread quickly. If you’re on a mission to find vanishing Hostess products, plan on being patient.
It seems there is a nationwide rush to load up on the beloved brand.
On Friday, some Houston residents said they had looked in a number of stores for Twinkies and had no luck.
“This is my third place and I haven’t been able to find them. It kind of makes me sad,” said Karen Erwin. “When have I ever been shopping for Twinkies and Ding Dongs for my kids except for when I know we can’t get them anymore,” she said.
Many are marking this date as the day the Hostess Twinkie died. The company announced it’s going out of business and laying off 18,000 workers.
“Where’s the Twinkies man? Where’s the Twinkies,” asked Danny Clark.
Other people who came up empty handed acknowledged the bigger picture and those really affected.
“That’s the saddest part of all really. It’s not missing the snack cake. It’s people losing their jobs. I think that’s just a crime,” said Stephanie Patrick.
Patrick couldn’t find any Twinkies, but she got a hold of a plastic Twinkie figurine.
KHOU stopped at 11 different stores on Friday. Only one had Twinkies, and the majority did not have any Hostess products left.
