HOUSTON – Severe thunderstorms rolled through the Greater Houston area Friday evening, but the weekend will be sunny and dry, according to KHOU 11 News Chief Meteorologist David Paul.

On Friday, the tropical system brought heavy rains, wind gusts up to 60 mph, lightning and some small hail to Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties.

This weekend looks sunny and dry with overnight lows in the low-70s and daytime temps in the low- to mid-90s.

Saturday temps will top off at 93 degrees.

“Make sure you’re checking the weather twice a day so you don’t get caught off guard if things change,” Paul said.

A slight chance for rain returns next week.

Looking to the tropics, we’re keeping an eye on a tropical wave that has a chance of developing further in the Caribbean before it enters the Gulf. It could bring us some rain toward the end of next weekend, but it’s unclear where it will go at this point. Over the next few days we’ll have a much better idea of where it’s heading.

In the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Erin formed early Thursday morning, but it’s too soon to tell where it will go.
