HOUSTON – A cold front will enter the Houston area this weekend as Tropical Storm Karen approaches the Gulf Coast, according to KHOU 11 News Chief Meteorologist David Paul.

On Saturday the chance for rain jumps as a cool front moves through. There is a possibility for thunderstorms Saturday afternoon with a 40 percent chance of rain. Saturday temps will top of at 88 degrees in the afternoon.

The cool front will leave us with early-morning temperatures Sunday in the upper-50s and daytime highs in the low-80s.

We’re keeping an eye on two tropical systems: Tropical Storm Karen formed early Thursday in the Gulf of Mexico. It's not expected to impact Texas, but over the weekend it could make landfall anywhere from Louisiana to Florida.

“Karen is weakening and will not become a hurricane,” Paul said.

It will be a big rain maker in Louisiana and eastward.

Also, Tropical Depression Jerry continues to move northeast in the Atlantic. It is weakening and will not affect the U.S.
