HOUSTON – A cold front moving through the area overnight will keep Tropical Storm Karen from threatening the Texas coast, according to KHOU 11 News Meteorologist Mario Gomez.

The cold will drop temps by as much as 10 degrees from what we have been experiencing the past couple of days. Overnight temps will be in the low-60s for the Houston area.

The front will also bring northerly wind gusts of up to 20 mph.

Karen was about 200 miles away from Galveston Saturday evening and will make landfall either late Saturday or early Sunday. However, once the frontal boundary hits Karen, it will push the storm from the central Gulf states further east.

After the cold front moves through overnight, expect to see highs in the upper-70s for the Houston area on Sunday.

For the start of the work week, highs will in the low-80s with lows in the mid-50s.
