HOUSTON -- Houston police said an apparent miscommunication among family members led to an early-morning search for a four-year-old boy Tuesday.

The boy was later found safe with his aunt, according to the Houston Police Department.

George Ward was reported missing from a neighborhood near the Eastex Freeway and the East Freeway sometime after 3 a.m. The boy’s parents told police they arrived home around 2:30 a.m., and the child went missing after that.

Around 5 a.m. police started going up and down streets near the boy’s home, using flashlights to try and find him in the dark.

The boy’s aunt later called police to say the child was with her.

An Amber Alert was never issued for the child.

Police refused to release further information into how the boy ended up with his aunt. An investigation is on-going.
