HISD superintendent to ask for property-tax hike to pay for school renovations

HOUSTON – HISD officials say many of the schools in Houston are getting old and need to be renovated or completely replaced.

But that would come at a cost of $1.8 billion dollars. The superintendent plans to ask the school board to approve a referendum Thursday to increase property taxes and fund bonds to pay for the improvements.
