HOUSTON—Officials at the Houston SPCA believe someone deliberately left a dog to fend for itself in a southeast Houston dumpster.

A good Samaritan found the animal in a dumpster along Scott Street and dropped it off at the SPCA.

The 1-year-old shepherd mix was emaciated and extremely week. But a veterinarian gave the female dog a promising prognosis.

“She needed immediate medical attention and we got some fluids on board,” said Dr. Victoria Cole.

“If we can keep her in good health and in good spirits I think she’s going to do just fine.”

The dog was wearing a large collar and officials believe it may have had an owner at some point.

Officials at the SPCA named the dog Faith, and planned to keep her in lost and found for a few days before placing her with a foster family.
