HOUSTON -- For hundreds of thousands of people, Thanksgiving was a special night at the annual Uptown Houston tree lighting.
Now in its 27th year, the lighting is a tradition. Part of it includes a competition among balconies which are decked out for the holidays at the Post Oak Hilton.
This year, a 5th floor balcony with a dancing Santa Clause won first place.
Down on the ground, spectators dressed in a sea of red—for the Houston Texans.
Pegi Williams of Katy wore her jersey and said her holiday wish list now includes a “Katy state championship” and “the Texans going to the Super Bowl.”
Yet the day’s final surprise came as Santa started to say goodbye. The more than 80 trees finally lit, creating a pathway home along Post Oak Boulevard.
A spokeswoman for the event said they did not start on time because of a computer glitch, and that this marked the first year that computers were used.
