SUGAR LAND, Texas – Fire officials suspect that two fires at playgrounds in a Sugar Land neighborhood on Friday may have been intentionally set.
Firefighters were called at 11:20 p.m. to the Briarwood playground located at Briarwood and Avondale streets, said Fire Chief Curtis LeGrotte. When they arrived at the scene, they found the playground fully engulfed in flames.
After the fire was extinguished, only the metal poles from the structures were left standing, said LeGrotte.
At 11:35 p.m., firefighter got a call of a second playground fire nearby at the Brookdale playground located at Saber River and Elkins Road, said LeGrotte.
Firefighters arrived in time to extinguish the fire before it completely consumed the playground.
Fire officials said that they are still looking into what caused the fires.
