HOUSTON -- Officials are investigating a fetus that was found in a bathroom in a southwest Houston apartment.

Investigators say a maintenance man called police after he discovered the fetus clogging the toilet Thursday night at the Azalea Park apartment complex, located on the 5900 block of Bissonnet.

One woman living in the apartment told KHOU 11 News that the fetus was not hers.

Roxana Zelaya said the toilet wasn’t working on Sunday, so she called the maintenance man who showed up Thursday evening around 7 p.m. to fix it.

“He was pulling the toilet cleaner out and when he pull it out he got the baby out and I was like ‘oh my god,’” said Zelaya.

A dead fetus was clogging the toilet.

Investigators took Zelaya, her husband, and her sister-in-law in for police questioning.

Zelaya said no one was pregnant in her family.

Investigators are awaiting autopsy results.

Houston police say no charges have been filed at this time as they continue investigating.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
