HOUSTON -- An energetic crowd of Ellen DeGeneres fans gathered at the Fannin South MetroRail Station Thursday for a chance to appear on her show.

Ellen's crew was in Houston to help promote the free METRORail rides being offered by The Ellen DeGeneres Show and KHOU 11. The segment taped Thursday will air during Friday’s show at 3 p.m. on KHOU 11.

Her sidekick Jeanne was on hand to greet the fans.

Ellen made the announcement on Twitter this afternoon:  "Ellen DeGeneres‏ @TheEllenShow:  Houston! If you wanna be on my show today, get to Fannin South Houston MetroRail Station at 1604 West Belfort at 4pm! I'll be lookin' for ya."

Earlier this week, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and KHOU 11 announced that they have teamed up to offer four days of free rides on METRORail in an effort to encourage use of public transportation.   The free rides kick off this Saturday, which is also Museum District Day in Houston, and continue on Sunday September 23, October 7 and October 28.
