HOUSTON —- Houston police continued their search Friday morning for a male suspect who was shot by a motel clerk who said the man tried to rob him.
According to the Houston Police Department, it was around 12 a.m. when the man walked into the Interstate Motor Lodge on the East Freeway and went up to the front desk. The clerk told police the man pointed a gun at him and demanded money.
The clerk, Jonathan Goldsmith, said he was then forced into a nearby bathroom where the suspect pushed his head up against a toilet.
Unlucky for the suspect, the clerk was prepared and pulled out a gun of his own. Police said the clerk opened fire and shot the suspect, who then took off running. Police said Goldsmith fired three shots, and they believe the suspect was shot once.
The clerk tried to run after the wounded man but lost him. He then returned to the desk and called 911.
Police brought in K-9 units to follow a trail of blood near the motel, but they weren’t able to find the suspect. They’re now keeping their eyes on local hospitals.
The clerk was not injured. He was placed in the back of a patrol car for questioning by investigators.
