HOUSTON—Dozens of bagpiping firefighters are in Houston preparing for the memorial service on Wednesday.

The bands have come from all over the United States and Canada to play for the public at Reliant Stadium.

They practiced on Tuesday night outside Hefley’s Bar in Midtown.

Houston’s Senior Cpt. Hunter Schappaugh said he has no count on who showed up because it all happened so fast.

“We don’t keep track ahead of time,” said Schappaugh. “We put the word out and everybody shows up.”

We found one band that came all the way from Alberta, Canada.

“We decided probably about 20 minutes after we heard it on the news,” said Senior Firefighter Rob Zimich. “We flew from Calgary to Dallas to New Orleans to Houston.”

The bands will have one last chance to practice before the service that starts at 10 a.m.
