HOUSTON—The star running back for the Houston Texans created a major stir on Twitter when he announced that he had given up meat for good.

Arian Foster told fans he was changing his diet through the following tweet:

“Officially a vegan now. We’ll see how this goes.”

Some skeptics took to twitter, posting remarks like “you need that protein son, yikes.”

And a fan at a local sports bar openly questioned the move.

“Hopefully he can keep that strength,” he said. “It could be kind of nasty.”

But the folks lining up at the Green Seed Vegan Café insisted Foster would be just fine.

“He’ll be leaner and faster,” said one vegan.

The owner said becoming vegan is a matter of sacrifice.

“It’s just a process of elimination,” said Matti Merrel.  “You just start by taking away your meat. And then from meat, your dairy of course. Your cheese. Things like that.”

Despite the skepticism expressed by some of his fans, it appeared Foster was winning some early converts.

“I’ll probably stick to tofu from now on,” said one season ticket holder.

A lot of fans were hoping Foster’s food fuels more wins for the Texans.
