HOUSTON -- Three children were grazed by a bullet at Betsy Ross Elementary School in northeast Houston Tuesday.
HISD police confirm a kindergarten student brought a loaded handgun to school and it accidentally went off when it fell from his pocket in the cafeteria.
A single bullet grazed all three victims, including the 6-year-old who brought the gun.
None of the children, two boys and a girl, appeared to be seriously hurt. They were all conscious and sitting up on the stretchers as they were loaded into ambulances.
HISD police and several ambulances responded to the scene at 2819 Bay around 11:20 a.m.
Several parents rushed to the school after learning of the shooting and some took their children home.
Police are now investigating how the boy got the gun.
The school was placed on lockdown as a precaution.
We'll have more on this developing story as details become available.
