AUSTIN -- DJ's spun the latest dance mixes and exotic cars revved their powerful engines as Formula 1 fans from across the country and around the world made downtown Austin their own. Formula 1 Fan Fest was in full swing Friday night.
More than 200,000 people are expected to come to downtown Austin's Fan Fest this F1 weekend.
"This is what it's all about. I love this, the economy and building the economy for the people down here. Where's the recession? Not here," Mike Hawkins, a visitor from California, said.
Instead of cars, crowds filled the streets and roamed for blocks in the heart of downtown. As the night rolled on, there was plenty of party people in the house.
Along with police officers who were making their presence known and keeping an eye on the growing crowd.
No matter where you looked, there was something to catch your eye and keep you entertained.
Everything from fast cars, to the band fastball who was just one on a long list of free performances.
Visitors say they're bowled over by what fan fest has to offer.
"I expected way less more, like not even this I thought," Javiar Cianca, of Mexico, said.
The locals are impressed as well.
"I think it's going to be great for Austin, good exposure. I think that everyone should enjoy our city the way us Austinites get to enjoy the city," Austin resident Margaret Carbajal said.
