AUSTIN -- The chance to see a major Hollywood player up close and personal brought hundreds to the Paramount Theater in downtown Austin Friday evening.

The actor causing the frenzy was Johnny Depp who is in town this weekend for the Austin Film Festival.
Depp is here to debut his newest film, “The Rum Diary.” It's based on a Hunter S. Thompson novel, telling the story of a journalist who moves to Puerto Rico and the ethical battles he has to fight there.
Depp is also receiving an award Saturday from the Austin Film Festival organizers called “Extraordinary Contribution to Film.”
No ABC affiliates were allowed to get an interview or video of Depp at the event because of a Disney contract revolving around his newest "Pirates of the Caribbean" film.
Actor James Franco is expected to spawn a similar fan frenzy when he shows up to the Paramount Theater on Sunday.
Tickets and passes for the eight day Austin Film Festival are still available.
