Authorities in Magnolia were attempting to contain a fire that forced mandatory evacuations for residents in Grimes, Waller and Montgomery counties on Monday.

Authorities said the fire started around 3 p.m., though the exact location it started hasn’t been determined.

The fire burned about 1,600 acres and destroyed at least 20 homes and a fire truck. One firefighter was injured, officials said.
