HOUSTON – Officers late Thursday night shot and killed a man who allegedly stabbed three people at a family’s wedding planning gathering, police said.

It all happened around 11:30 p.m. outside an East End home on Nagle Street near Leeland Avenue, according to the Houston Police Department.

HPD spokesman Kese Smith said officers responded to a 911 caller who reported a stabbing.

“Apparently a number of people were in town for a wedding when one of the party members got into an argument with other family members,” said HPD spokesman Kese Smith. “That argument moved out onto the street where the suspect then stabbed three individuals.”

Police said they found Labaran Idakoji, of California, holding a knife outside the home, but he ignored their commands to put down the weapon. An officer opened fire after the 26-year-old man moved toward police. The man stayed on his feet, and a second officer opened fire when police said he approached them again, knife in hand.

Idakoji was pronounced dead at the scene.

His 62-year-old father and his 29-year-old brother from California were most seriously hurt in the stabbings.  One victim was listed in critical condition and the second victim was in serious condition. The third was in stable condition. All were transported to area hospitals.

An HPD spokesman said the officers involving in the shooting would be identified at a press conference at noon on Friday. Both officers were said to be on the force for more than three years.
