HOUSTON –- A security guard said he risked his own life when he witnessed a fight outside of the Houston business he’s paid to keep watch over.
The guard, Larry Horner, told KHOU 11 News that God put him in the "right place at the right time."
It was shortly before midnight Thursday when Horner said he saw four men fighting outside the welding business he works at on Houston Avenue. One of the men smashed another man’s head with a beer bottle, and a third man stabbed the fourth man with a knife.
Horner said when he saw the knife, he took action, but he believes someone else’s words may have saved him from getting hurt.
“They had seen me coming,” Horner told KHOU 11 News. “So the suspect that was actually stabbing the guy said ‘policia! policia!’ That’s when he let go of the guy.”
Without someone mistaking him for the police, Horner thinks the suspects would have turned on him.
Instead, the man accused in the stabbing is in custody, and both victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.
