HOUSTON -- A security guard was shot outside a game room in southeast Houston late Saturday night, and it was caught on surveillance tape.
Around 11:30 p.m., Houston police officers responded to a call at the Evergreen Game Room at Evergreen and Hemlock to find a security guard shot in the head.
In the video, you see the first suspect walk into the business to check it out. As the guard gets up and approaches him, a second suspect charged the door with a gun.
The guard used his weight to push the suspects out the door. Moments later in the corner of the video, you see the guard being shot in the head.
Detective Ramon Cervantes described what the guard did, before the shooting, as heroic.
“He pretty much pushed the suspect out the door and then was pretty much shot right almost at the threshold of the entry of the business to protect customers and everybody else,” said Investigator Cervantes.
The guard pulled his weapon but never fired it, according to authorities.
Investigators say the victim was employed with the Austin Security Company and had worked at the game room for a while. Company officials had no comment and would not release the guard’s name.
Surveillance video from the convenience store next door shows the men running from the scene. Detectives are looking for four men in this case. They were seen leaving the crime scene in a Pontiac Grande Prix sedan.
