GALVESTON, Texas – A 61-year-old retired Houston police officer was killed Saturday night when  a teenager plowed into his motorcycle on Seawall Boulevard in Galveston.

Former HPD Officer Dana Tweedie was on his motorcycle, along with his wife and current HPD officer, Linda Tweedie, 52. They were heading west on Seawall Boulevard just before 8 p.m. when a red Camaro struck them, according to Galveston police.

Investigators said 18-year-old Callie Inman, of Dayton, was pulling out the parking lot of the Valero at 69th Street when her vehicle hit the Tweedies.  Witnesses said Inman got out of her car and tried to blend in with the crowd after the accident.

Tweedie, a 25-year veteran of HPD, was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, who has been with the force for 30 years, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Investigators said Inman was drunk at the time of the accident. She was charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault, and booked into the Galveston County Jail.  Her bond was set at $150,000.

“This is a tragic situation that need not occur. An impaired driver took a great member of the Houston community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Tweedie family and the Houston Police Department,” GPD Chief Henry Porretto said.

Dana Tweedie also has a brother, Bill, who serves as a sergeant with HPD.

Anyone interested in donating to the Tweedie family’s medical or burial expenses may send cash or checks (payable to HPOU) to the Houston Police Officer’s Union, 1600 State Street, Houston, Texas 77007. Please note “Tweedie” in the memo and 100 percent of these funds will go to the Tweedie family.
